Investments in renewable energy worldwide reached record levels in 2022, according to a new report by IRENA and the Climate Policy Initiative.

In particular, a total of 0.5 trillion funds were invested throughout the world. dollars, according to the report “Global Landscape of Renewable Energy Finance 2023”.

However, the authors of the report highlight that this amount represents slightly less than 40% of the average investments required in the period 2021-2030, based on IRENA’s 1.5 degree Celsius scenario.

The level of investment is not on track to meet the goals set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Given that decentralized solutions are crucial to fill the gap in universal access to energy resources that will enable improved living conditions under the 2030 Agenda, efforts must be made to scale up investments in off-grid renewables, the report says.

Additionally, investment in off-grid RES solutions falls short of the $2.3 billion needed annually in the sector between 2021 and 2030.

Finally, it is noted that investments have been concentrated in specific technologies and uses.
