Greece set a new record for clean energy on May 9 with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) covering 63% of total demand (65.9 GWh / 104.1 GWh).

According to the Independent Electricity Transmission Operator (IPTO) from the energy consumed that day, the wind “starred” with 43%, the sun contributed 17% and the other RES (hydroelectric, biogas-biomass, SITHYO 3) %.

The new historical performance of the country broke the previous record of September 14, 2020 by 12 points, sending an optimistic message for the success of the energy transition and the achievement of national and European goals for Energy and Climate.

It is noted that the role of IPTO in the transformation of the energy landscape is catalytic as through the critical projects it implements at sea and on land, it prepares the new generation of infrastructure that “shields” the green prospects of the country for the coming decades.
