It was another record year for renewable energy, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and rising raw material costs worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

According to the Guardian, about 290 GW of new renewable energy generation capacity, mainly in the form of wind turbines and solar panels, has been installed worldwide this year, surpassing last year’s record.

According to current trends, the production of electricity from renewable sources will exceed that of fossil fuels and nuclear energy together, by 2026.

According to the report, released Wednesday, renewables will account for about 95% of the increase in global electricity generation capacity by now until the end of 2026, with solar energy providing about half of the increase.
