Storage facilities are expected to increase 20-fold, reaching a total of 358 GW with 1.03TWh of storage available worldwide by 2030, according to new research published by BloombergNEF.

In particular, the Global Energy Storage Outlook (2021) states that the two largest electricity markets worldwide, the US and China, will operate more than half of the facilities by 2030.

Meanwhile, other top markets that will follow the same path are Australia, India, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan.

The BNEF notes that the US and China will remain sovereign thanks to the ambitious targets set by both the government and utilities in the US and China with the goal of 30 GW of new battery storage units by 2025.

Finally, BNEF estimates that the United States will build more on a megawatt basis, largely due to the fact that battery storage units in the US have more storage hours.
