The Hellenic Society of Energy Economy successfully completed the 6th Energy Transition Symposium “Looking Ahead with Optimism, Beyond the Covid Era”, which took place from Tuesday 28 September to Friday 1 October 2021, at Theoxenia Palace Hotel in Athens. For another year, the annual Symposium served as an open dialogue platform, with representatives of states, academia and the private sector contributing to discussions and exchanges on critical energy issues.

Given the special circumstances of 2020, the 6th Symposium inevitably focused on the turmoil caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on the global energy system. Despite the sharp decline in global emissions last year due to the downturn in economic activity, huge efforts are still needed to achieve the ambitious goal of a zero-carbon economy. Governments are required to take decisive action and implement structural measures to accelerate the transition to clean energy and pave the way for a sustainable recovery. In addition, the solutions offered by renewable energy sources can play a key role, providing a rapid response to the pandemic while building more resilient energy systems. These issues, among many others, were discussed in detail during the Symposium sessions.

The plenary sessions of the Symposium were held in person, offering at the same time the opportunity for digital presence to those who have difficulty attending it live. On the other hand, all the presentations of academic works were done digitally while both the plenary and the simultaneous academic sessions were broadcast live.

SPYROPOULOS SA as a Silver Sponsor successfully participated in the Symposium and was represented by the General Manager Mr. Tomaras Konstantinos.

The 6th Energy Transition Symposium was honored by the presence of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Costas Skrekas, the Minister of Development and Investment, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, the US Ambassador, Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt, the Ambassador of France Patrick Maisonnave, the Ambassador of Spain, Mr. Enrique Viguera Rubio, the CEO of DESFA, Ms. Maria Rita Galli, the CEO of the Energy Exchange Group, Mr. George Ioannou, the President of CERA, Mr. Andreas the President of RAE, Prof. Athanasios Dagoumas, and many other prominent market executives, academics and representatives of the state.
