Last Sunday, a new record was recorded in “green” energy production, when Renewable Energy (RE) covered 140% of electricity demand. The surplus of production was channeled to exports, and at the same time the participation of lignite in energy production was reduced to zero. According to data published today by ADMEE, increased energy production from wind and solar sources has led to increased participation of renewable energy sources in the electricity system.

According to the Administrator:

For 10 hours in a row, electricity generation from Renewable Energy Sources (RENs) covered the total electricity demand even at rates of up to 140%.
Thro the day, the contribution of lignite in the energy mix was zero, resulting in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from electricity generation remaining at low levels. At the same time, the country exported large amounts of its energy surplus through cross-border connections.

The Administrator stresses that, “In the midst of energy transition and climate crisis, ADMEE continues to develop and strengthen the Transportation System, creating modern and resilient infrastructure. Thus, it is possible for even more green records and increased energy security throughout Greece.”
