Despite the effects of the pandemic, 2020 was a positive year for wind energy, with 115 gigawatts installed worldwide, double that of 2019, according to Platts estimates.

The data show acceleration in China and the US and a slowdown in Europe. The additions were particularly high in December with 47 gigawatts.

In the offshore wind sector, it is estimated that there will be an acceleration of the facilities from now on, as in the US the 30% tax cuts have been extended until 2025, when 30 gigawatt projects are planned on the east coast of the country and Platts estimates that 10 gigawatts by 2030.

Internationally, offshore wind farms added 5 gigawatts last year to a total of 33 gigawatts, 75% of which is in Europe.
