The American company Tesla, according to information, is included in the list of suppliers of the contractor TERNA Energy of the Ai Stratis Green Island project.

Specifically, Tesla Motors Netherlands is expected to provide the batteries for the project. The list of suppliers also includes the companies Enercon (wind turbine), Spyropoulos (photovoltaic), Proposis (Energy Management and Control System), Schneider Electric and TEK Thessaloniki.

TERNA Energy is called to complete the project that aims at a very large penetration of RES in the percentage of over 85% in the electrical system of Agios Efstratios while covering most of the heating needs of the residents.

The project envisages the installation of a 1MW RES hybrid station, which will consist of a wind turbine and a photovoltaic system with a battery storage system. Also, a station for conversion of excess electricity into thermal energy will be constructed and stored in hot water tanks. Finally, a district heating network will be constructed for the distribution of hot water. It is noted that today the electricity needs of the island are covered by the PPC station that operates with diesel while the heating of the buildings of the island is done mainly by oil boilers.

The project Ai Stratis green island is fully funded by the NSRF and also includes its operation and maintenance for a period of 12 years. It is expected to completely change the energy image of the island, as it will lead to the energy autonomy of Ai Stratis and the reduction of the operation of the PPC unit, which will cover only 15% of the electricity needs and will operate mainly as a backup. With the new hybrid system, finally, it is expected that there will be a reduction in the cost of electricity generation but also a significant reduction in the cost of heating.
