The SolarPower Europe association published its new report on the photovoltaic market of Europe during the period 2021-24, which includes its forecasts for Greece.

Specifically, the association expects that 4.2 gigawatts of photovoltaics will be installed in our country in this period with an annual increase of 23% to reach the total power of 7.6 gigawatts in 2024. In the low scenario the additional power is estimated at 2.2 gigawatts while in the high scenario at 5.2 gigawatts.

It is noted that based on the data of 2019, our country was 6th in per capita solar energy from PV with 321 watts per inhabitant. At the same time, our country’s share in the wider European market is expected to remain stable from 2020 to 2024 at 3%.

Regarding the challenges for the domestic industry, the association states that the government plan does not yet include details for the next tenders, while it foresees a strong dependence on projects without grants. At the same time, it is emphasized that despite the ambition at ESEK level, the government has set a new burden on RES producers which may reduce the revenues of photovoltaics. This measure may reduce the facilities to 7.7 gigawatts by 2030.

Finally, there is talk of prosumers where the goal is set for 1 gigawatt by 2030, but there are no details yet about the framework that will succeed the existing net metering framework.
