Nearly 10% of the world’s electricity is generated by wind and photovoltaic for the first half of 2020, according to a new report by the British think tank Ember.

In particular, wind and solar power generation was 14% higher in the first six months of the year compared to the previous year, reaching 1129 Twh compared to 992 in 2019. This means that the share of wind and photovoltaic in the world electricity mix increased to 9.8% in the first half of 2020, compared to 8.1% last year, always according to the report.

Ember says it analyzed data from 48 countries, which account for 83% of global electricity generation.

These two forms of renewable energy production account for 42% in the case of Germany for the same period, while the corresponding figure for the United Kingdom is 32%.

At European Union level, 21% of the energy came from the two aforementioned RES technologies, while in other countries the picture is as follows: 13% Turkey, 12% USA and 10% in China, India, Japan and Brazil.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the share of carbon in the global electricity generation mix for the first six months of 2020 was 33%.
